As sports fans, we read analysis, feature or opinion articles on a daily basis. Whether found on ESPN, Fox Sports, or our favorite local sports hub, one commonality runs strong: 99 percent of these pieces are written by media members who have never played the sport themselves. Or, at the very least, they have never played at the professional level.

Former NFL players Matt Chatham and Sage Rosenfels are working to modify that.

Over Labor Day weekend, Chatham and Rosenfels rolled out their new website, Football by Football. FBF is a football analysis site that provides unique player-generated content. Part of the site’s mission reads, “A tiny percentage of the writing population has football experience. This is a disparity we aim to change.”

Football By Football already features several columns by NFL players, including Grey Ruegamer, Joel Dreessen and Michael Robinson. Rosenfels’ first piece was, aptly timed, “Memo to Johnny Rookie.” The former QB assures us much more engaging content is on its way.

“I wanted to create a website where all the writers were former NFL players,” Rosenfels said. “True insight comes from actually doing and not watching, and the stories will be real and authentic.”

So, what are you waiting for? Add Football by Football to your bookmark list, now!
